Isopods are detritivores, which are animals that feed on dead organic material, especially plant
detritus. This makes them essential in naturalistic and bioactive setups as part of the clean-up
crew.
These are some iconic isopods; they really look like rubber ducks. You can see the orange
duck bill in the close-up photos. These are in the group of isopods that can conglobate (roll into
a ball) as a defense. These are not great for clean-up crew due to how slow they reproduce and
how reclusive they are. They make better display or pet isopods.
Rubber Ducky isopods prefer high humidity and moist deep soil, 4-6” is ideal.
They do great on fish-based foods such as fish flakes, dried minnows, etc.
Rubber Ducky isopods ship on damp sphagnum moss in a deli cup.
